The Technology Committee
The Technology Committee has been hard at work since its conception in the summer of 2005. We started with nothing but questions: what should we call ourselves? how does one create a site? how do we get online? With the help of a technologically saavy fellow in Slayton (Tim Lange), we put our first pages online. We had many adventures and misadventures along the way. Hyperlinks, HTML, software, and web design became more than just foreign terms and puzzles to us. One of our first tasks was to develop a mission statement that would guide us and keep us focused. Our mission statement was: The creators of this site seek to develop a website which will improve communication in our congregation and community and help us to grow physically, intellectually and spiritually.
Members of our committee in 2005 were Shannon Pederson, Luann Parker, Ruth Green, Earl and Jackie Linder, and Julie Keller. If you are a history buff, you might like to read some of our first Jottings which tell a little about us. Leslie Wajer joined us the following year.
In the summer of 2010, we broadened our horizons as we expanded our web site outreach into a technological venture. Church members began a remodel project in the library and are turning that into a room with multipurpose uses. It is now a Conference\Library\Media room. We have several computers and a projector\screen available for our congregation to use at their meetings and events.
In the summer of 2011, the Technology Committee was officially sanctioned as a committee of session. It has established guidelines and updated its mission statement: The Technology Committee seeks to use technology to improve communication in our congregation and community and to help us to grow physically, intellectually and spiritually.
2012: The Technology Committee has continued its quest to stay informed and in tune to the latest developments in this arena of constant change. We are currently exploring how to improve our multimedia equipment. As always, the web site is a challenge as we try to keep it updated weekly. Our members are: Shannon Pederson, Bud Kooiman, Kevin Aanenson, Linda Haken, Mitch Bergman, Justin Keller, Leslie Wajer, Barb Bergman, and Julie Keller.
2013-2014: After a year of using multimedia equipment in our worship services, the congregation voted to update everything. We have invested in a new projector and screen and new sound board. We are still working to utilize all of the functions that are available and will plan a special celebration Sunday to celebrate technology and the ways that it can serve our congregation. The web site is changing with a new design and will be under construction for a few weeks.
2016-2017: We are pleased with the multimedia equipment and have added a new video camera to our supplies. We hope to get recorded video sermons online in the near future.
2018-2019 - We have recently updated our computer and media software used for worship services. We also moved our desk to a location with improved sight lines.
2020-2021
We have purchased a new laptop and IPad to use in worship services. Our services are recorded for viewing on YouTube.
Members: Shannon Pederson, Leslie Wajer, Julie Keller, Justin Keller
